XC skiing at West Bragg

While conditions were not incredible, we went for a ski with our friends Alf and Stacey. Here's
Walter trying out his new skis and boots (new to him).

Walter got too warm so that meant Dad had to carry his jacket. Rhys and Henry are zipping ahead of
us along the Hostel Loop.

While the track was icy and solid, the boys did great and had no problems zipping along.

One of the hills was quite steep and Walter had no issue rocking the herringbone.

Walter found a ruffed grouse and thought it was pretty cool.

Henry helped me wash down the mats in Natalia's car. He thought the pressure washer was pretty sweet.

Ski touring with Matt
Full size
My buddy Matt and I had never toured together so we went for a 'vetting' trip together to ensure that
we could ski together and have similar risk tolerances. Here's a funny photo from an outhouse in Banff
that we popped into prior to the Taylor Lake turnoff.

My buddy Matt and I did a mid-week tour up to Panorama Ridge to check out the snow pack there.
While it's a pretty long tour up there (it took us almost four hours from truck to ridgetop)
the snow was pretty stellar.

Looking down to the bottom of the Panorama peak tarns.

Putting in an uptrack. Most of the trail is along the summer trail to Taylor Lake, but the
rest of the trail was a bit of route finding up to the ridge.

Matt and I on trail as we make our way up the skin track.

With 'Considerable' avalanche rating, we were pretty careful stepping out onto the bigger terrain.
We took one look at this roll at the top of the ridge and decided to head back the way we came as it
was pretty wind-hammered.

On the way out, Matt got a bit off balance zipping between larch trees and made himself a pit.

Henry got his first bank card! He was so stoked.

Walter was super excited as well. Your Grandpa Ray would be proud of your Leo account.
